Every Moment Counts

In my spiritual pursuits, research and many consultations in the field of non-duality and metaphysics, I have learned a lot about the idea of time itself.

It seems that in our physical reality, we are all very subject to timers and time limitations.  We wait at the traffic light for the signal to change, we set our alarm for a certain time to wake up, if we delay too long on one of our computer programs it times out, and so on.

It seems that everything has some kind of timer attached to it including our very lives. That kind of conditioning roots us in the idea of the past and the future, and I'm sure you'll agree that we spend a lot of our time thinking about the past and a lot of time spent on thinking about future endeavors and events.

In fact we tend to summarize ourselves based on all of the things we've done and our learned experiences in life to identify who we believe ourselves to be. And then based on that we tend to predict our future and this leads to anticipation and expectation.

In reality, according to my experience in the field, we all live in what is called a oneness. That is, we are all connected and there is no separation whatsoever, just the idea of separation. And because we live in a physical dimension that does measure time we tend to become inured in this idea and live our lives solely based on time itself.

In fact, Mark Twain said: “Time is what keeps everything from happening at once!”

If you agree that you live in a oneness then that must mean that every moment contains a drop of total consciousness! And if you ponder what that means, that you truly are not separate from everything that ever was and ever will be, that is a amazing source of internal power.

But we tend to become dismayed and disconnected because we have not cultivated enough the reality of this interconnectedness with all things period to truly master the moment is to BE in the moment. To fully grasp and seize that moment where all of your power resides because you have no power over yesterday nor tomorrow, but you do have power over this moment and that is what helps define a greater sense of your own character is when you not only come to this realization, but you own it!

Swami Vivekananda said something on the order of; “The cause of our misery is expectation and anticipation.  Blessed is the soul who neither expects nor anticipates!”

Discipline your mind to avoid outer distractions, and to focus completely on the moment or the task at hand and you'll find a much greater sense of self-empowerment, even self-realization. Mix that with a healthy dose of trusting your intuition and you'll gain an even greater sense of awareness of this connection to all things and the oneness itself.
