Horton Hears a Who

Theodore Geisel, as beloved author Doctor Seuss, wrote many children's books that remain popular today. One of them was titled Horton Hears a Who. This is a story about an elephant (Horton) who's hearing was so good that he could detect a little tiny being (a Who from Whoville) making a noise while living in a little tiny village in a little tiny dust speck on a single flower; not visible to the naked eye.  The Whos are miniature furry beings in Whoville.  They are cheerful, love Christmas, and Horton when passing through a flower field heard one of them in this microscopic speck of dust.

The essence of the story is how Horton was condemned by his fellow beings because none of them could hear what he heard so clearly. The story went on to the point where Horton was constantly ridiculed and criticized simply because he was the only one that could hear the sound this little being was making.

Horton protected the flower from others because they were threatening to take the flower away from him.  He knew what he heard, though no one would believe him.  Ultimately, a “hearing device” was constructed so Horton’s fellow beings could hear the little Who from Whoville.  That what Horton heard was very real, though not discernable to Horton’s peers.

I often recommend this book to my clients who are looking more fully to understand how their own intuitive abilities through faith can reveal higher levels of awareness and insights even though at times no one else around them may be able to do so.

Can you imagine how difficult it is to know something in your heart to be true and yet to be criticized because no one else has that level of awareness or understanding that you feel you so clearly do.

In the world of metaphysics and non-local events this is incredibly pertinent because our intuition is working 24/7; it is never off.  And that faith in intuition is one of the main reasons why I've been doing flower readings for 33 years, to show that through trusting the intuition we are born with can reveal insights that are incredibly accurate.  Although the people around you may not “see” what you see that does not make it less impactful and accurate!

I’ve written about this very thing in my chapter on the Second Chakra in Eye of the Lotus; Psychology of the Chakras.  Our Second (Sacral) Chakra, like all chakras, is possessed of active intuitive abilities.  Often, the second chakra will reveal insights through faith that are not available to the thinking mind but appear as an (most often very accurate) inspiration.  Intuitive abilities are not commonly cultivated in our culture, but are a part of our beingness nonetheless.

Because intuitive abilities are a natural part of our being, using them and trusting through faith reveals levels of awareness that shift us to higher comprehension.

Horton was blessed with exceptional hearing.  What if you are blessed with exceptional intuition and you can discern events that others cannot yet?  Horton trusted what he heard, though he could not see.  Our intuitive faculties bless us with abilities that are mostly dormant but coming alive moreso in today’s awakening culture of inner exploration through yoga, meditation and spiritual practices.
